An Economical and Safe Choice for Vehicle Fire Extinguishers

  1. It is recommended to use a portable dry powder fire extinguisher.
Firefighting equipment currently available in the market for vehicles can be divided into four types: dry powder extinguishers, ultra-fine dry powder extinguishers, carbon dioxide extinguishers, and water-based extinguishers. The dry powder extinguisher works by chemical inhibition, interrupting the chain reaction of combustion. It has a high extinguishing level, full functionality, rapid fire suppression, electrical insulation properties, good low-temperature performance, long storage life, low cost, and is easy to operate. Ultra-fine dry powder extinguishers are used on buses; carbon dioxide extinguishers have certain risks at high temperatures; water-based extinguishers are not suitable for storage and are expensive.
  2. The fire extinguisher pressure gauge should be in the green zone to be normal.
The pressure indicator of a fire extinguisher is divided into green, yellow, and red zones. If the needle points to the green zone, it means the extinguisher is in normal working condition; if it points to the yellow zone, the extinguisher is nearing the end of its service life; if it points to the red zone, it indicates internal pressure leakage and the extinguisher cannot be used. It should be sent to the maintenance department for repair or replacement immediately. Additionally, fire extinguishers have an expiration date. They should be replaced promptly after expiration. Even if unused, extinguishers must be inspected by a professional maintenance unit after 5 years from manufacture, and then annually thereafter to ensure safety and reliability.
  3. Place the fire extinguisher in an easily accessible location.
Do not place the fire extinguisher in the trunk, because if a fire breaks out, the extinguisher in the trunk will be difficult to use promptly. It is better to place the extinguisher within the driver's reach, such as under the driver's seat, under the front passenger seat, or behind the driver's seat. It must also be secured to prevent it from rolling around.
Note: Extinguish small fires quickly; run away from large fires quickly. Vehicle fires often start from a single point. Once a fire is detected, firefighting equipment advises: quickly aim the vehicle fire extinguisher at the base of the flames to extinguish the fire. If the fire is too large or cannot be put out within about two minutes, evacuate immediately. Do not rely on a small vehicle fire extinguisher to turn the tide; at this time, you should evacuate quickly and call the fire department.
